Adult & Community Support Worker
💙 Help adults take their next step towards independence
What if your job wasn't simply about supporting someone through a difficult period, but helping them build the confidence, skills and stability they need for a more independent future?
Join our Liverpool Adults – Asylum, Social Care & NHS team, providing personalised 1:1 support to adults living in temporary accommodation across the Liverpool region.
You'll work alongside adults with a range of needs and circumstances, including people experiencing mental health difficulties, trauma such as PTSD, drug and alcohol dependencies, homelessness and other complex needs.
You'll help people overcome barriers, develop practical life skills and prepare for a move towards longer-term accommodation and independent living.
This isn't about doing things for people. It's about working alongside them, building their confidence and helping them recognise what they can achieve for themselves.
☀️ A Day in the Life
No two days will be the same — and that's part of what makes this role so rewarding.
☕ Start your day by reviewing your caseload and planning your visits. You could be supporting someone with their housing goals, preparing for a move or helping them work through something that's currently preventing them from moving forward.
🏠 Get out and about across Liverpool, visiting adults in their accommodation and building positive, trusting relationships. You might work with someone on budgeting, maintaining their property or developing the routines they need to live independently.
🧠 Support wellbeing and resilience, including working alongside adults experiencing mental health difficulties, trauma, PTSD or other complex circumstances.
🍷 Support people experiencing drug and alcohol dependencies, helping them take positive steps towards recovery and engaging with appropriate specialist services where needed.
🤝 Work alongside professionals including NHS colleagues, Social Workers, healthcare practitioners, Police and other agencies to make sure the right support is in place.
💼 Support people to look towards their future, whether that's accessing education, employment, training or other opportunities that can help build confidence and independence.
🔍 Complete property inspections, identifying issues and supporting service users to understand their responsibilities and maintain a safe and suitable living environment.
💬 Use your skills when situations become challenging, remaining calm and professional while using appropriate de-escalation techniques and maintaining clear boundaries.
📝 End your day by recording your work, updating support plans and writing clear reports that demonstrate progress, needs and outcomes.
You'll see the small wins — and sometimes the really big ones.

👋 About You
We're looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient and genuinely motivated by seeing people make progress.
You don't need to have worked in exactly the same role before. Your experience might come from housing, homelessness, asylum support, drug and alcohol services, mental health, trauma-informed support, social care, criminal justice, NHS services or another environment where you've supported adults facing complex circumstances.
What matters is that you can build relationships, maintain professional boundaries and see the person behind the challenges they're experiencing.
We'd love to hear from you if you're:
❤️ Compassionate – you treat people with dignity and genuinely care about their progress
🧠 Understanding – you have an awareness of mental health, trauma, substance misuse and the challenges faced by people experiencing disadvantage
💪 Resilient – you're comfortable working with complex needs and challenging situations
🤝 Relationship-focused – you know that trust is often the starting point for positive change
🗣️ A strong communicator – you're confident working with service users and professionals
🔎 Solution-focused – you look beyond the immediate problem and help people find a way forward
📋 What You'll Need
- Previous experience supporting disadvantaged adults to develop independence — this is a support role, not a traditional care role
- Experience working with complex needs, including mental health, drug and alcohol dependencies, trauma/PTSD and/or challenging circumstances
- A good understanding of safeguarding adults
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Confidence working independently and managing your own caseload
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft 365
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use
- Willingness to travel throughout Liverpool
- NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care, or a willingness to work towards it
A background in housing is desirable but not essential.
